Photography gear

In order to provide the best value for my community, I'd like to get an idea of what gear you're using for photography.

What camera are you using and/or what phone are you using to take your photos?

I use Canon 60D with a 60mm macro lens. I love to shoot macro things with it. Even though I’ll love to have one of those long lenses, I have learnt to appreciate the 60mm and 60D for now.

That’s a tough one. Canon and Nikon are equally great. I’d recommend beginning with an entry-level DSLR and taking it from there. I don’t know much about Canon, so I can only vouch for Nikon. I began with a Nikon D3100. At this point, it’s quite old but still a great camera to begin with. Or any camera in the D3000 range.

Keep in mind, glass makes the biggest difference. I’d recommend getting an entry-level DSLR and high-end lens. It will make an incredible difference in the quality of your photos.

I follow you for your artistry, spiritual and emotional sensitivity, and depth. The images you see and bring to the screen never fail to bring that kind of peace that has life energy in it, that can really only be described as shalom.

I take pictures, sure. With my phone. I am not that part of your audience. I am just an admirer.

Some of my photos are taken on a Pentax K3 and others just from a Google Pixel 5. I’ve actually been really impressed with the camera on the Pixel. I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it is.

I’ve run the gamut over the years from 35 mm Minolta slr, Olympus handheld, Nikon d3200 and more. I have to say my Samsung S20-5G takes some of the best photos and with the editing features, I find the outcome is very satisfying. And as I get older I really appreciate the autofocus technology that has improved over the years.

currently Canon 5d mk2 with a range of lenses plus a Samsung S7 phone.
early travels I used Panasonic GX1 and GF1 mainly with the 20mm lens, which is a 50mm equivalent on a DLSR. I loved the 2 small Panasonic’s for longer term travel and if I had the cash I would buy a newer micro 4/3 system. I broke one of the Panasonic’s πŸ™

My only advice would be to keep shooting and experimenting. Your “eye” will eventually develop and it will become second nature.

In all honesty, I feel like you’re feeling 95% of the time. I always expect better photos of myself. It’s only now and then when I’m proud of a specific photo.

What I always try to keep in mind is that I’m creating art. There’s no “good” or “bad”. It just is what it is. What I’m trying to achieve is to capture a moment the best I can, to convey the story and emotion I see and feel in that moment.

I have been a Nikon user since the 80’s when I first picked a camera. Now use D300s but may soon switch to FujiXT3 for street photography. My son Justin Aranha though uses Nikon F3 and shoots film.
