Joseph Campbell essentially taught me to ritualise almost everything I once considered mundane, my morning coffee, my afternoon walk, my bedtime reading. Over time, I realised that ritualising ordinary moments makes them sacred. And when something becomes sacred, when you give it meaning, it gives meaning back to you.
Ritualising everyday actions also deepens our attention to them. When we fully immerse ourselves in an experience, it can feel sacred in its own right, beyond any need for cognitive meaning-making.

Joseph Campbell taught me so much, including we are all more similar than we often realize, including regarding our spiritual beliefs.

Joseph Campbell’s insight into our shared humanity is truly profound. In recognising these common threads, how do you think our individual journeys are shaped by the myths and stories we live by, and how do they influence the way we connect with others on a deeper level?

Thank you and I agree – I have started attending a relaxed Buddhist group in my area and we discuss such things. Mindfulness can flow through everything we do – I have created a very simple life and I make sure my simple routines are mindful. It certainly pays off over time, as I can handle stressful situations calmly and I so appreciate my simple things and seeing the birds, the sunrises, the trees, the bees, my dogs, my cats, my garden, and more – as I vacuum and mop and sweep! Always appreciating others too, and that they too have come from a long history of STUFF so always be gentle with others…

Thank you so much for sharing this—it’s really beautiful. It sounds like your mindfulness practice has brought so much peace and clarity into your life. There’s a real power in embracing simplicity and paying attention to the present moment, even in the smallest tasks. I love how you’re able to appreciate the world around you, from nature to the people you encounter. Your approach to both life and others is truly inspiring.
How do you stay consistent with this practice, especially when life gets busier or more stressful?

This article is very nice.
I enjoyed reading it.
My ritual also includes freshly brewed coffee in the morning. That and some simple stretching.
I believe that our ordinary daily life is full of small happiness.
Thank you!

I’m so glad you enjoyed the article. Freshly brewed coffee in the morning sounds like the perfect start to the day—there’s something about it that makes everything feel a little more grounded. I couldn’t agree more with your thought on finding small happiness in the everyday. It’s the little things that often make the biggest difference.
Do you have a favourite part of your morning ritual?

Being a ritualist means to be stoic and follow the true purpose of life
March 24, 2025 at 8:28 pm
That’s a powerful way to look at it. Rituals can really help ground us, and stoicism gives us the strength to stay true to our purpose, no matter what comes our way.
I’m curious how you weave these principles into your daily routine?

thank you for this simple but powerful insight into a life of meaning

I really appreciate that! Sometimes, it’s the simplest ideas that have the deepest impact.
What does a meaningful life look like to you?

Wow, never thought of that
March 21, 2025 at 5:43 pm
Well said, Hannes. I think ritualising also enhances our sense of security.
March 24, 2025 at 8:23 pm
Thank you! I completely agree. Rituals can create a sense of stability, especially in uncertain times. There’s something grounding about having familiar practices to return to.
Do you have any rituals that bring you a sense of security?

An attitude of gratitude cultivates a life worth living – no matter how much or little we may have.
April 3, 2025 at 9:01 pm
That’s so true. Gratitude shifts the focus from what’s missing to what’s already here, and that changes everything. It’s not about having more but about seeing more.
April 3, 2025 at 9:14 pm
Yes, I like that it is about seeing more! Amen

That’s true “ritualising ordinary moments makes them sacred” and when they become sacred and you give it meaning it gives meaning back to you.
your perspective is so great 👍

Very true. But to ritualize, you got to slow down in a fast paced world. Actually, makes me think of Nemo in the Matrix?
April 9, 2025 at 8:48 pm
That’s absolutely true and I think the point of it. To live a life filled with intention, and sometimes that means slowing down.
Are you referring to a specific scene in The Matrix?
April 10, 2025 at 2:58 pm
The one that comes most to mind is when Neo finally “gets it”, and everything slows down, I seem to remember him plucking the bullets out of the air, if I’m remembering right.
April 10, 2025 at 8:20 pm
Ahh yes you’re right. I also recall that scene.

The practise of sacred time, ritual and slowing down are so important, I think, and so underrated in our world. It feels as though there’s this rocket ship blasting through our lives and some of us are hanging on the tail end, trying to slow it down 😉
May 19, 2025 at 9:27 pm
You’re so right. It’s incredibly underrated. Haha. You can say that again. Every year it seems the rocket increases its speed by x2 😂
