In the vast silence of its ochre deserts and distant, stoic mountains, something ancient stirs—not just in the land, but in you. It’s a country that doesn’t shout to be noticed. It simply exists—bare, immense, and unapologetically real. And in its quiet, you start to remember parts of yourself you didn’t know were lost.
Regretfully, no. My wife and I both dream of traveling to Africa. We recently saw an episode of the Grand Tour where they went through Mauritania. Surprisingly, that episode awakened a latent desire in both of us. At some point we will definitely be going to Africa. Mauritania and Namibia are definitely on the list. Would you say Namibia is less popular to western tourists?
You will definitely love it. The great open road. The most beautiful and serene places. The kindest people. I’ve been on holiday in Namibia over 20 times in 20 years. It’s always been a wonderful experience.
Not at all. It’s extremely popular to western tourists. We always come across tourists from all over the world, everywhere we’ve been.
Those are still wonderful places to visit.
Wow! That must’ve been quite the experience! Hopefully no one got hurt. Otherwise it makes for a great story to tell.
Hannes, it’s the country of which my father, Mr Justice Victor Gustav Hiemstra, wrote the first democratic constitution, to turn South West Africa into Namibia.
