Wild beauty – Namibia

      1. I did a search – according to Wikipedia, the Namib Desert Horse may is probably the only feral horse in Africa – they are hunted by hyenas and leopards, but have lasted at least a century – thought to be escapees or releases from the German army in WWI – maybe -but they have evolved drought resistance and now have a unique genome among horses of the world. Sadly they have a love/relationship with humans just as in North America- farmers don’t want them competing with livestock and nature purists want them eliminated as an invasive species. But they’ve received some protection, and have been well studied. Thanks for making me aware of them.

        1. That’s so interesting. Yes, I’ve also read they were released during/after WWI. Luckily they are receiving some protection. It’s incredible to witness them in the wild and to be able to get so close to them.
